I want to create a website

I've heard this phrase a lot of times, but most of the times the client didn't really know what exactly he wants. "To create a website" isn't only the technical task as lots of people think, and it isn't a kind of magic also. First of all it is a marketing task and your website can be successfully developed when you exactly know what you want and can formulate it on the business language.

Why create a website.

If we're talking here about business websites (corporate websites or ecommerce) there is only one reason - earn the money. That's it! And then the most interesting question you have to ask yourself - How can I make money on Internet? And here your website marketing specification begins.

You already have your business, your business communications and your clients, and here you have to decide which parts of your business process you want to improve. The answers are based on your products, services, geography, experience etc. It's all yours, any web-designer can't be useful on this stage, it's your business not his.

Before making a website...

...just remember one simple rule - first of all your website sells information. And this information should be easy of digestion, valuable, helpful, accurate and beautiful.

  • Your product catalogue sells the product information.
You sell your photos, titles, descriptions, specifications, testimonials.
  • Your ecommerce website sells the easiest way to get what customer wants.
You sell handy and searchable online store, simple and secure payment system, easy customization of your product, etc.
  • Your web-service sells the shortest route for customer to get your service.
And here you sell a professional, fast and clear web-solution, which cover your service for customer.
  • Even your 3-pages simple website about your company doesn't sell your company, but sells information about your features.

So, first of all you should know what information you sell to your customers. Based on your selling information you and your web-designer are starting to develop structure of your website, its keywords core, concept of design and other web features. Every item of this list is worth of separate article and I sure you it will be published soon.

But now I want you to think before telling your web-designer to create a website about three simple things:

  1. What do you really sell?
  2. What information does your customer buy?
  3. What solution will let your customer to get this valuable information?

If you have answers for these questions then you really want to create a website, and your web-designer will know what to do with that.
